Alcazar Restaurant, Paris
Commissioned by Conran and Partners
75 x 600 cm
The Alcazar restaurant occupies a building on the Rive Gauche with a long musical history. The infamous 19th century orchestral cabaret hall later became a popular jazz club. ¶ Commissioned for the private dining room of the restaurant in Paris, the composition draws upon the rhythms, structures and improvisations of jazz, and makes a material connection with the ceramics of the Alcazar Palace in Seville. ¶ Detailed discussion with Conran and Partners at the onset of the project resulted in a tactile yet durable work which displays subtlety within its intimate setting. The piece was transported to Paris in six modular sections and assembled on site. ¶ Designed and produced in collaboration with Ian Bilbey.
